Shane’s Most Anticipated Movies - 2nd Half of 2011

We are entering the second half of 2011. The year is quickly slipping by and so far it’s been pretty uneventful. By the looks of the movies coming out the rest of the year it looks like there are few standing out from the pack. We may have to revist them at the beginning of 2012, but for now, here are the 6 most appealing, in my eyes:

6. Captain America: The First Avenger – I wish they would have gotten a more high profile name for this one. These things always seem to work themselves out, but sometimes they don’t (Hulk, Superman).

Captain America has died many times in the comic books, so I thought they would kick start the franchise with a big name star. Once he kicks the bucket bring in the less famous actor. Whoever it is would have had to commit to a franchise of not only Captain America movies, but the Avengers movies as well. So, the relative unknown, Chris Evans (Fantastic 4 as Human Torch) will do just fine.

5. Winnie the Pooh – Looking forward to this one for two reasons. Number one, Disney went with the classic look and artwork. There is something so beautiful and rich about those Hundred Acre Woods characters that could not be captured via CGI.

The second reason is this – Have you seen the trailer with that Keane song, “Somewhere Only We Know”? Talk about a perfect match. I get so overcome with joy… and then I want to cry… and then joy… and then back to crying.

4. Conan the Barbarian – This one looks amazing. I have seen the old films many times over and Arnold is Conan the Barbarian… until now. Jason Momoa looks more like Conan than Arnold ever did. Sword fight, anyone?

3. Breaking Dawn Part 1 – Love or hate the Twilight saga everyone should be anticipating this movie. We are nearing the end of the Bella/Edward/Jacob love triangle. You know… until the prequels and the spin-offs. Did you really think this money train was just going to come to a screeching halt?

2. Moneyball – If this were a Fantasy baseball draft, I’m looking forward to this one being a sleeper. Sure, it has Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill in it. People will see it on their star power alone. I see potential for it to be a classic.

It’s about Billy Beane (Pitt), the general manager for the Oakland A’s, using computer analysis to put together his squad of players. Even to this day the real life Oakland Atheletics keep finding success with one of the lowest player salaries in the league. It’s a remarkable story.
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 – Did you expect anything else to top the list? This is the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise. These young Wizards have grown up before our eyes. It’s going to be tough for all of us to wave goodbye.
