How Do You Know

Thinking of a Redbox rental? We sure did while on vacation and we came up with the romantic comedy (used loosely) named How Do You Know.
Well, there are a few things I know. For one, this is not a good movie. Let me be more specific in my critique. It has all the makings of a "good" movie. Jack Nicholson, for instance, may be my favorite actor of all-time and he doesn't disappoint all that much. He plays Charles Madison who is the conniving father to George Madison (Rudd).

Reese Witherspoon plays Lisa Jorgenson, a USA softball player that is not called back for the 2010 roster. She goes looking for "insensitivity" from Matty Reynolds (Owen Wilson), a professional baseball player. To save a lot of time, Rudd starts falling for Reese while she is still going back and forth with Wilson's character.

Rudd on the other hand is at a crossroads with his father due to illegal dealings that could potentially lead to either of them being imprisoned. Rudd's character must make a decision to betray his father or take the fall for him. Paul Rudd is the funniest thing about this movie. He really outperformed some big-time Hollywood hitters, which is pretty impressive.

Owen Wilson, who I believe was awesome in Wedding Crashers is not good in this role. He is good at being the almost-bad guy that you want to like, but he's too easy to not like as a jerk. In this role he was trying to teeter between good-guy and jerk, but it was unsuccessful.

As for Reese Witherspoon this was an "eh" performance. She's great. She is among the best in the actress category, but this movie can be an afterthought and we will all just move on. It didn't do very well at the box office and there is good reason for that.
