Review: "Limitless"

Shane’s Take:

The reason I know Bradley Cooper is a good actor is because I believe him. When he
played in Wedding Crashers I was hoping that Vince Vaughn would knock his lights out
when he said “Big tree fall hard.” Ironically, that is a line that I repeat at a regular rate.

He again played a douche bag in He’s Just Not That into You. I just knew I could never
like watching him in anything again. Regretfully, it is part of the reason I was hesitant in
watching the first Hangover movie.

Then, I saw the Hangover. He made me believe that he’s had a group of friends before
and lead them through some troubling waters. Leaders get people to do things they
wouldn’t normally do or push them beyond their abilities. We’ve all had that friend that
could get us to steal a tiger from Mike Tyson. Although he’s not the “funniest” of the
crew none of it would work without him. He is very funny.

I realized now, this is what a good actor does. They can make you love them or hate
them. So, when I saw Limitless it was a wrap for me. In Limitless, he starts out as a
burned out writer on his last leg. His girlfriend leaves him and he stumbles upon an old
friend who introduces him to a pill that allows him to use 100% of his brain’s power.

He immediately finishes the book he’s been stuck on and life’s opportunities become
abundant. Now, just like any drug there are drawbacks and side effect. In a way it feels
like another angle on drug addiction and where the pharmaceutical companies are going
in our country.

Whatever your take on it is, it’s a fresh and exciting story with an original plot. There is
plenty of action and twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is one to

Matt’s Take:

Wow, Bradley Cooper is such a douchebag. He’s the guy in high school that played baseball and made fun of fat people. He’s the guy who sleeps with the nice virgin, then posts pictures of the encounter on his Facebook. In short, he is the worst kind of guy…in his films.

In person, I’ve heard nothing but nice things said about Bradley. Celebrities love working with him and say he is one of the kindest people they have met. That’s the genius of Bradley Cooper-you see what he wants you to see.

In “Limitless”, Cooper showcases both of his personas and he does it well. Shane gave you the rundown of the plot so you know what the storyline entails. The plot of this movie is refreshing. In a year full of half-baked 80’s rehashes, “Limitless” shows that writers still have what it takes. The visuals are stunning and when Coopers switches to the “miracle pill” colors are more vibrant, sounds are cleaner. In all honesy…I really wanted to try this stuff.

Acting was spotless with Bradley Cooper shedding his douchebag side to play serious, and Robert De Niro shedding his serious side to play douchebag. “Limitless” isn’t a movie to rent, it’s a movie to buy. Why are you still reading this? Go buy it. Now. Seriously? Ok.
